A Chicago man, John Wright, ran from a would-be marriage as the mother of his bride-to-be confronted him at Marshalltown union depot. Wright, employed by Miller & Gilbert of Ames, described the affair as unwanted nuptials with a widow, Mrs. Charles Holdridge, whose mother objected. The trio traveled separately back to Ames.
