A 1902 notice calls Republican electors in Iowa's Seventh District to a Perry convention on July 10 for nominating a candidate to Congress and other business. It lists representation by county and votes for governor at the 1901 election and includes party commentary and local editorial bits.
The Times, official Story County paper, advertises annual price of one dollar per year for subscription and local notices.
Lor Thomas was nominated to succeed himself in Congress from the eleventh Iowa district at Sheldon last week by acclamation. A spring discussion about a failing hay crop has subsided with no new whispers in the past two weeks.
The proposed town between McCalisburg and Nevada has no name yet while the southern stretch between Nevada and Cambridge will be Ship ley. The rail line will create two new Story county towns but they will intrude on Nevada territory. Additionally a warning is sounded against Texas oil stock schemes described as a major fraud.
A northern state case clarifies that a husband cannot escape wage garnishment on debt by claiming marriage alone. The court ruled a husband must show family support to shield wages. the issue arises from a man who did not support his wife, yet faced garnishment. The decision will be appealed and notes widespread practice in the state.
A Kingsville Missouri minister, Rev W Stevenson, writes to commend the White Wine of Tar Syrup as an excellent medicine. He states he can conscientiously recommend it to others and notes its sale at Coye Pharmacy.
Des Mores Iowa reports a warm showery week with large rainfall across three fourths of the state. Northeast districts saw heavy downpours damaging bridges and crops while many areas remained unplanted or required replanting. Crop conditions overall are good with some fields delayed by rain. Rapid growth raises fears that grain crops may become rank for best results. Efforts to treat corn will be resumed as conditions remain generally fair.
