The Republican National Convention nominated William Howard Taft for president on the first ballot and James S. Sherman for vice president on the first ballot. Roosevelt forces plan a new third party as the platform defends constitutional rights and independent courts.
Members of the O. O. Co. Fo from Ames attended the Story County Odd Fellows third annual convention in Story City last Thursday. Postmaster Henderson gave the welcome address and handed the city key to visitors. A heavy shower interrupted the parade but did not dampen the event. The banquet followed with talks by Grand Masters Stevenson and Tilton and Rev. W S Wiest. Maxwel lodge presented first and second degree work. Colo iva showed the second degree.
The Fort Dodge Des Moines and Southern railroad receivers receive authority to issue 800000 in certificates and spend 64000 on a steel trestle west of Boone and 11000 for two cars to serve the Ames campus spur. Judge McPherson also allows sale of 1280 acres bought for coal prospecting and authorizes 80000 in improvements.

Mrs Irving Smith plans rebuilding of the Gables after last winter’s fire. Cedar Rapids architect Charles A. Berman designs the remodel with James Troup supervising construction and C J Waltmire of Ames serving as contractor. The seven Gables will be reduced, walls retained, second story stuccoed, and the interior altered. completion expected by October first.

Dr. Juling Tilden awarded the contract this week for a residence on North Duff Avenue just north of the M. A. Manning home. Marion Noble secured the contract.
