Summer School Opens Next Week at Iowa State College
The 1912 Summer School at Iowa State College opens Monday June 16 under director A V Storm. About twenty eight college credit courses are offered with nine full professors eleven associate professors and five instructors plus specialists in agriculture home economics and manual training. Strong lecturers include Theodore Sexauer P E McClenahan and Fred J Mahannah. Courses cover agricultural engineering animal husbandry chemistry botany English economics mathematics and more with both regular college work and general courses. The program runs five weeks ending the Sunday after the rural life sermon by Rev W H McNutt and features two daily lectures and practical discussion sessions.

The Methodist church observed Children’s Day with a full program by the young folks. An orchestra played songs and the Primary department presented “Prayer Song” and “Welcome” by Lacie Perry. Various recitations, songs, and exercises followed including “Education” and “America” on bells, led by Claude Scarborough and S. A. Knapp with eight boys speaking.

Terrible murder at Villisca Iowa shocks the community
An ax murder during a Sunday night at the J. R. Moore home in Villisca killed eight people including the Moore family and two visiting girls.
