Remarkable Letters from the 51st Iowa Camp
A long letter from Penny M. Grove of Ames Iowa details camp life at Merritt with Rev D L Thomas and Miss Weeks caring for sick Iowa boys. It notes departure plans for Manila July 25, gifts from California residents, and high morale amid heat and damp nights. It also mentions Miss Weeks, Rev Williams, and the guard to the ship. Other items include a testimonial for Dr King’s New Discovery and local ads for baby carriages and Bucken’s Arnica Salve.
