The Ames post office outlines a postal savings program with deposits from $2.60 to $196.95 and fixed certificates bearing depositor names. Accounts open to patrons ten years old, with monthly limits and a 1.4 percent postal savings card option, details include stamps and bonds.
The youngest son of Mr and Mrs Wm Allan suffered facial burns while playing near his home. He was treated by a dentist Ada and later attended a clinic with his sister as neighbors helped scout the area. Eyewitnesses say eyebrows and hair were singed and he remains in light condition with expected recovery in days.
The case centers on Grand Avenue paving and whether the lowest bid for materials should be accepted. Judge Wright ruled the council could accept the lowest bid for the materials, with property owners pressing for the decision. A large fire in West Ames gutted a house formerly occupied by a family named Gras Gate. Fire crews arrived and contained the blaze after noon, with no serious injuries reported. A bystander noted flames spreading rapidly and authorities began an investigation into the cause.
The Ames auctioned residences included multiple private homes and parcels in West Ames. News notes describe buyers, property transfers, and a large sale day with dwellings on Maple Street and neighboring blocks.
Twenty two sportsmen from across the state gathered Friday at the Ames Gun Club grounds east of the avenue for a shooting event. Prizes included singles and doubles, with Chas McBride of Americaull leading in singles and doubles. The day ran from morning into late afternoon.
Bill Black, recently studied from Knextille, returned to railroad work last week and stepped on a cinder. He sprained the ankle and tore ligaments, was taken to the county farm for treatment, and is reported as getting along nicely.
