Tragic Accident East of Ames Claims Bridge Builder
A bridge builder from Chicago, W. J. Bridgeman, 28, died in a hay rake accident Friday morning near Ames while visiting relatives. He stepped onto a tongue, was dragged about a mile, and his skull was fractured. Bridgeman, born in England, leaves a wife and two children, and his funeral was held Sunday at the Montgomery home with interment in Nevada Cemetery.

Crop Bulletin from Des Moines on July 22 1901 notes extreme heat with a 86 degree mean and around 100 degree daily highs for two weeks. Winds and scattered showers offered little relief as tasseling corn sustains damage especially in southern and eastern districts. Late corn on deep soils fared better. rains soon could lift three fourths of the crop though losses are not yet estimable. Harvest of small grains nears completion while pastures potatoes apples and garden crops deteriorate steadily.

Mrs Cyrena Clark Dies in Ames After Long Illness
Mrs Cyrena Clark born April 6 1822 in Madison County New York married to William M Clark Nov 20 1842 died at the home of Mrs Henry Hodgson Ames after a protracted illness. She had lived in Ames since 1846 leaving nine children four surviving two sons and two daughters. Funeral held at Mrs Hodgsons home Tuesday July 23 conducted by Rev J M McIntire and Rev C L Baxter with interment in Ames cemetery.
