A drunken outsider boarded the interurban last Sunday forenoon, wandered the streets until Marshal Thompson detained him. He refused to go home, assaulted the marshal, then was jailed. After sobering up he was fined tenard costs.
George Nichols known across the county was arrested on a state warrant for inebriety. Judge Lee held a noon hearing and sentenced him to a three year indeterminate term at the Inebriate Asylum in Knoxville. He may go home to prepare and will be taken away today by Sheriff Ricketts.
Mrs. S. W. Pickett learned on Monday that her brother Ed Wright died in Chicago that morning. Wright was a son of Mrs. Fannie Wright of Ames, a respected resident. The body was taken to Waukee for burial with funeral at three this afternoon. Mrs. Pickett and her son Walter went to Waukee. Mrs. McGrath and Hua Kingkade also departed to attend. Death caused by acute Bright's disease.
Bank official Mr. Sylvester, named vice president of Ames Savings Bank, appeared at a local event seeking to discuss new financial initiatives and community outreach.
A man cruises Tuesday evening in a recently purchased Buick described as a high class machine.
Attorney H. B. Slattery and his family left Ames Saturday. They will visit his mother in Dayton Iowa then travel to Yellowstone Park and seek a permanent home on the coast. Slattery built up a growing law practice and desires a county seat and a larger town, with a preference for the west coast.
Geo Kannes living south of town asked for the release of his farm dog from the city dog pound after fearing the animal might be killed. The dog was found near Harve Kanness’s home and released on petition of the owner.
The Iowa Homestead Company led by president James M. Pierce with about 200 workers traveled from Des Moines to Ames by interurban last Saturday. They lunched near the Campanile, watched a state field baseball game, and enjoyed a dancing party in Margaret Hall. An alumni hall supper closed the evening with more dancing.
Iowa’s Biddy Beard loses to Sheppard of the Irish American Club in the 800 metres at the London Games. Huff and Hamilton fail to place in the 100 yard dash semi finals. The text also references a religious spectacle with large crowds and rope pulls.
Mr and Mrs Stevens of New York City traveled through Ames Monday afternoon in a three seated Packard touring car en route to Frisco. The vehicle registered 4500 at this place and its rear was arranged as a bedroom to allow spending the night fifty miles from anywhere if necessary.
Charley Williams, hired by F I Cannon of the McCarthy place, was beaten in a Saturday morning clash. Williams filed assault and battery charges. Cannon pled guilty and paid a ten dollar fine plus costs. The fight, over a trivial matter, ended with Cannon firing Williams after settling wages.
The county papers announced a dissolution of partnership between Curtis and Kinkley of the O. K. barber shop and Kintzley denied any disposal of interests saying there was nothing to it at any time. He asked his partner for clarification and stated plans to continue business.

W. W. Talbott traveled from Chicago to Belle Plaine last Monday evening in his new five passenger automobile. He bought the car there earlier in the week, then drove home stopping to visit relatives in Belle Plaine.
Dr J H McNeil head of veterinary science leads a conference with doctors from at least ten states and Secretary J Wilson attending. They witness a serum production method to prevent hog cholera, tested at the Niles farm station for two years under agriculture and animal husbandry guidance.
A cook Tom Robinson and helper Alva Howard clashed after an acid tails prank on cats sparked a street quarrel in front of the Stultz cafe. Marshals Thompson and Wilkinson intervened as Robinson reportedly pleaded guilty to assault and battery.
At a Monday city council meeting the resignation of H. E. Slattery as city solicitor was read and accepted John Y Luke was appointed to succeed him The city faces matters requiring an experienced attorney including litigation over curb work on Main Street which will keep Luke busy this year
F. F. Rogers, a special agent for McColl Realty of Des Moines, leads fifteen land seekers from Ames on a Texas trip. Rogers reports strong business in Texas land offerings.
Gov. Hanly continues to captivate chautauqua audiences with a strong presentation of today’s needs. He stands apart from ordinary politicians in the state, and the intense public affection helps compensate for political losses.
John Aspwell of Story City pleaded guilty to intoxication after being arrested in Ames. He received a $5.00 fine plus costs from Mayor Tilden and was released on the condition that he leave his buggy as security until he could pay.
Mrs Fred Munn Miss Cessna and the Hardcastle family will occupy tents on the Chautauqua grounds this season. The E T Z Club will camp in tents and be chaperoned by Miss Moore. Miss Dunham and friends will camp. Mrs Chamberlain and daughter of Nevada will live in a tent. K W Brown will put up a family tent. The Y Beta sorority will camp on the grounds this year.
Frank Darner and Fred Romans form a partnership to move Romans grocery stock to Darner Ice Cream Parlor. The ice cream shop is closed for repairs while shelving is installed. They aim to open the consolidated business by the start of next week.
A note invites patrons to Morrow evening at Buckton's on College Street for an ice cream event hosted by Christian ladies. Proceeds benefit a local cause.
