Big fire in Gilbert Iowa wipes out multiple buildings
A Sunday morning blaze destroyed W McGill’s stable and spread to adjoining shops and homes in Gilbert. Losses included Marsden’s store, Watson’s residence, and Kibbie’s meat market with most insured. McGill suffered the heaviest loss. Firefighters protected remaining town structures as a mare died from smoke inhalation.
