In district records for January 6, 1509, Mt Gage Sageon and students are listed with attendance figures and names of those neither absent nor tardy. L M Bosworth, a local druggist, markets Dr Kings New Discovery for consumption and lung ailments with trials and guaranteed cures at 50 cents to 1.00.
Fire alarm at 6 30 p m drew people to the Davis Hotel where smoke poured from the office. The blaze started when a man bumped a lamp while rising from his grip. Clothing behind the counter and the register were ruined, wall charred, but the fire was brought under control. Gust Lindell announces a new horse shoeing shop in the Freeland Livery building.
During la grippe epidemics pneumonia often followed colds but Chambers Cough Remedy was observed to prevent that outcome. The remedy counteracts a cold or la grippe leading to pneumonia and is advertised as the best for bad colds and la grippe. Every bottle warranted and sold by druggists.
Mexia Texas publisher Jas A Jones credits Chamberlains Cough Remedy with a faster recovery from the second grippe attack this year noting he was in bed only about two days this time versus ten days after the first attack. He says the second bout would have been as bad without the remedy as he became bed bound within six hours of feeling ill.
Ad claims a one day cure for a cold using Laxative Bromo Quinine Tablets. States druggists refund money if it fails to cure. Warns that genuine pills have L. B. Q. on each tablet. Contains a dated style note 29-6m.
The seventeenth semi annual meeting of the Upper Des Moines Editorial Association will be held at Eagle Grove on February 16 and 17, 1899. A list of discussion topics and speakers includes E N Bailey, Jas B Trigg, John Brennan, E D Chassel, Bernard Murphy, Fred B Wolf, Miss Minna F Murray, and E L Tiede presenting papers on delinquent subscribers, ladies or farm departments, partisan vs independent papers, advertising aids, defining news, country correspondence, reformer journalists, and advertising knowledge.

The Loyal Artillery of America will organize Tuesday evening January 17. Members who signed the application for membership should report then, with Read's hall likely as the lodge site.
