Miner Roberts Found Dead in Barn by Own Action

Obituary notes Miner Roberts born March 20 1812 in Spring Mass. He moved to Chariston as a youth, married Sally Rhoda then Sarah Wilson, lived in Story City most of life, joined Christian church in 1852 and Mason in good standing. He died after years of ill health and morphine use, with Mrs. Roberts grateful for community support from Masons and others.

Narrow Escape From Fire At Langs House

Fire from a stove spread to the floor at Langs house east of town during the early hours of Friday night. The family woke to heavy smoke. the blaze gutted a couch and a partition before being extinguished. A warning urged readers to wear shoes before exiting in snow and ice.
