The call for a Friday caucus at the Opera House February 16 asks residents to nominate candidates for Mayor Treasurer Assessor and City Solicitor for two year terms. Voters in each ward will also nominate two councilmen. The page also covers electric lights in Ames Gilbert fire rebuilds and local political debate about term lengths and prohibition policy in Iowa.
In a February 8 1894 message from Ames Iowa T H Benton Stull argues against an income tax as proposed in the Wilson tariff bill. He favors higher import duties and increased internal taxes on spirits to raise revenue while criticizing partisan schemes and calling for practical measures.
