Old Skunk river mill torn down near Cambridge landmark
A Cambridge landmark on the Skunk river, the old mill built in 1857 by Dr Grafton and a Mr Chandler, was recently razed after years of debt and poor returns. A long reminiscence recalls 1860 Hardin county delegates crossing the Skunk by buggy en route to Des Moines, with a money envelope lost and recovered by a hotel servant, saving bankruptcy and their reputations.
