Old mill on Skunk river torn down in Cambridge
A Cambridge report recalls the 1857 Skunk river mill built by Dr Grafton and Chandler. The $15,000 structure failed to pay a percent and left owners in debt, sold for $200. An 1860 trip from Eldora to Des Moines is recounted, including a near bankruptcy scare when delegates lost a tax envelope on a dangerous crossing.
