Men of Religion Movement Leaders Named for Ames Campaign

The four day campaign for the Men and Religion Forward Movement features experienced leaders. Henry Wallace, editor and author on farming, preaches weekly Sabbath lessons and helped shape the Roosevelt country life commission. J. H. Fellingham, oldest YMCA secretary in Iowa, coordinates campaign work with a focus on small-group instruction. Harry C. Goodrich, Des Moines YMCA boys secretary, will deliver the boys message, drawing on his farm and school years to engage youth. Concluded on page 3.

Fire at Main Street Livery Burns Town Store

Slater faced a major blaze Tuesday evening with no wind aiding efforts. The fire started in a livery barn on Main Street and damaged a nearby store, with several other buildings threatened. Losses totaled several thousand dollars, with Ole Thoreness owner of the barn reporting 800 dollars loss, no insurance. Mr Reineman 2100 dollars for horses and harnesses, insured for 3000. Ames Young People Elope At Nevada Methodist Parsonage

Mr Hyerert Falconer and Miss Ly lia Jiyzer eloped last Saturday, marrying in Nevada after a license delay. Falconer, twenty, is in the two year agricultural course. Ly lia is nineteen. They will reside with the bride’s mother at 128 Slyland avenue until the school year ends.

Big Agricultural Meeting in Des Moines

Agricultural men gathered in Des Moines for the State Farmers Institute and Agricultural convention on Tuesday and Wednesday. Dean Curtisa and Prof. R. K. Bliss spoke on agricultural topics while President Stanton attended. The Corn Belt Meat Producers association held its annual banquet at the Savery hotel with many Ames attendees enjoying the event.

Iowa State Grange in Session with Delegates Attending

The Iowa State Grange meets in Alumni hall with nearly a hundred delegates and many visitors. Topics include farmer concerns, taxation lectures by Prof John Brindley, and college demonstration work. The program outlines daily sessions December 12 to 14 with degrees, reports, elections, and music.

Robbed by pickpockets in Des Moines Friday

While shopping in Des Moines last Friday Mrs Belle Pettit lost a pocketbook containing about $20 to pickpockets. The crime was reported to the police but no trace was found of the suspected woman. She did not reach Ames on her return ticket and stayed overnight with a sister, leaving Des Moines Saturday.

W A Devendorf longtime Story City druggist died in Des Moines Sunday morning where he had worked in real estate since leaving Story City. Geo Wiggins of Story City traveled via Ames with his remains Monday evening toward Eldora for burial yesterday afternoon.

Band Benefit Falls Short In Home Talent Play

A home talent production titled Bibi staged by Mrs. W. Clenmier at the Armory drew praise for staging and performances but failed as a band benefit. Cast included Katy Sandman Clark Miss Jennine Shugart and many others. The aeroplane chorus won applause while the tin soldiers drill drew an error. Organizers have not disclosed the net proceeds, but locals say Ames should have shown stronger support.

State Board of Education Meeting at Iowa City

President F. W. Stanton returned from Iowa City where the State Board of Education met. The finance committee was tasked to inspect sanitary conditions in all state schools and to procure coal and ash handling apparatus for power plants. A herdman’s residence at the Ames college was authorized up to 15000 dollars. Prof John Buchanan elected experimentalist in Farm Crops section at 1800 dollars salary.

Holy City Oratorio Sung by Ames Choirs

The 1.8 chapel choir performed Gaul's oratorio The Holy City at the Methodist church last Sunday evening and again at the college last Sunday morning. Pre Thompson conducted and Mrs Thompson sang solo. Ingeborg Svendsen played the organ. The music was sung beautifully and drawn hundreds of Ames residents.

Guernsey Breeders to Meet in Ames Next Tuesday

The Iowa State Guernsey Breeders Association will convene in Ames next Tuesday December 19 with prominent breeders from across the state attending. Almstead Recovers Damages From Interurban

The claim agent for the Fort Dodge Des Moines Southern railway settled G. H. Almstead’s damages claim after he was injured by a heavy electric shock while riding the college car last week. The company is commended for prompt settlement.
