A brief catalog item notes a big assortment of ladies hand bags priced from 25c to 3 dollars and highlights a collar corner with a finest assortment ever shown in Ames.
F C Du Von, a trusted worker at the electric light plant, tapped the till for sixty four dollars and fifty cents while supervisor Livebaugh was away. He fled town on a night train after leaving unpaid bills, reportedly drinking heavily and behaving erratically. The city may recover part of the loss from wages owed, with the rest absorbed by the manager.
A busy program lists a pupil recital, a postponed Sophomore play to February 2, and a sacred concert in the chapel. The oratorical contest is set for tomorrow evening with six literary societies represented. Stock shipments to Chicago and a February Iowa cement users meeting at Ames are noted, along with faculty speeches and prize judging plans for the International.
The Methodist hospital in Des Moines seeks canned fruit or jelly donated by December 20. Mrs. Geo. O’Brien will receive items as Epworth League plans to pack and ship them to arrive just before Christmas. Marrua L. Shinkle serves as vice president.
Miss Mabel Cupps leaves for Indianola. Z J Loughran visits Boone. Mrs Chester Morrison returns to Omaha. Lizzie Corbin visits West Liberty. Amcay Cupps and son visit Indianola as Mr Hiram Blake travels to Wyanet after a sister's death. Mrs Fowler visits Des Moines. others visit Story City, Des Moines, Chicago and Panama. Geo E Baker buys holiday novelties in Chicago. numerous relatives host winter stays in Ames and nearby towns. Jet F Ferrall officiates a wedding in Bloomfield. 30 degrees below and two feet of snow contrast with balmy Iowa as families gather for holiday time.
Miss Edith M Arrasmith and Louis O Hansen wed at the William Arraswith farm near Ames with about sixty relatives present. Rev F Ferrari performs the ceremony at noon under a smilex and carnation festoon. A three course dinner follows and housekeeping begins at the Arrasmith farm January 24 1906.
A proclamation announces The Novelty Store as agent for Christmas gifts in Ames 1905. It invites all residents to visit daily until Christmas Eve to find dolls books china and other goods shipped from Toyland with reasonable prices.
About three hundred fifty attendees including Masons families and Eastern Star members filled the Masonic ball for Joshua Chapter No. 127 BR A M. Royal Arch Masons entered through a lavish maze of red curtains and gilded arches. Officers elect were ushered in by Grand Marshal W A Stuler and High Priest F N Fowler with C E Hunt as E High Priest and F C French M E King among others.
M. Bosworth served as Treasurer with F. N. Fowler as Secretary and R C Allen as Captain of the Host. Other officers included H W Dow as Principal Sojourner L M Hurt as Royal Arch Captain J B Davis as Master of the 3rd Vail JB Cagwin as Master of the 2nd Wail 8 Cramer as Master of the 2nd Vail and J P Alderman as Tyler. The ceremony was beautiful and impressive and the robes heightened the pageantry. Afterward the company enjoyed the freedom of the rooms and sociability well into the night. The Joshua Chapter’s hospitality was praised by the other Masonic orders.
The Ladies of St Johns Guild announce an apron sale this Saturday December 16 at Hamiltons store. A selection of useful and dainty aprons will be offered to help readers stock up for the year. Also noted are lodge officer elections at Arcadia Lodge No 249 A F and A M with installation set for the 27th. Mrs Austin Shumaker, missionary to China, will speak at the U B church Sunday with sessions at 11:00 am and 7:30 pm.
