Fire Rips Ames Main Building At State College
Early Saturday Ames woke to a long fire alarm blaze in the Main Building of the college. Northwestern engines and campus chimes summoned residents as fires spread through the oldest campus structure. Much of the library and labs were destroyed along with manuscripts and instruments. Trustees debated rebuilding measures and a temporary dormitory plan while seeking funds for repairs and a possible restaurant and lodging project.

A December blaze at the Ames college, housed in a four story E shaped structure, destroyed most of the botanical herbarium and part of the history library while sparing some plants. The fire started in the boiler room around 3 30 AM and spread to all wings as volunteers from Ames and Boone fought the flames. No serious injuries reported though students lost valuables. efforts focus on heating Morrill hall and arranging interim housing and future rebuilding.

Thackerville resident 8 B D Blanton paid over 300 dollars to doctors to treat a leg sore. They urged amputation, but he cured it with one box of Bucklen’s American Salve. Sold 25 cents a box by L M Bosworth. Also new buckwheat flour at Bradley and White’s. Poultry wanted. Oh ES B Reap.
