Iowa State College gains multi year funding for new veterinary building gymnasium mechanical lab fire library auditorium and more. Millage extension adds 450000 for upbuilding with 75000 equipment funds and central heating upgrades. Nearly 2000 fall applications signal record enrollment and rapid expansion.
The Ames Commercial club met at the Hulett block dining room with about twenty members. They discussed raising dues from two to twelve dollars a year, a motion failing by amendment to form a five member committee to revise by-laws and arrange a speech by W. W. Marsh of Waterloo at the Hulett dining hall. The committee named was Parley Sheldon, F. R. Conaway, Dean Curtiss, J. J. Grove and J. G. Tilden. The group adjourned to hear the committee report and elect officers.
Prof J R Hutchison, Ames graduate and former auditor for the Denver Laramie and North Western Railway, is named to Wyoming state board of accountancy by Governor Carey for a three year term. He leads the university school of commerce and is noted as a leading state accountant. Also mentioned is J F Sanders of Ames owning a New York Tribune copy from Lincoln assassination eve.
The Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern railway company plans a major Des Moines river bridge about one and a half miles west of Fraser replacing the old trestle. Construction expected to start this year and will shorten running schedules significantly.
The city hosts a two day jubilee rally at the Christian church under C W E M auspices with state and national officers speaking. The program runs Tuesday from 2 30 pm with an illustrated lecture by Miss Mills of India and Wednesday from 9 am to 8 pm featuring Mrs Atwater of Indianapolis as keynote speaker. Meals at 25 cents and two banquets for church circle girls and missionary ladies accompany the event.
The Marion Green quartet led by Marion Green with Mrs. Dorothy North Esther May Plumb and William C. Hall presented a strong concert on the fifth number of the lecture course. Solo numbers impressed and encores followed each performance. The ensemble blended well and the second half featured ten nonsense songs from Alice in Wonderland.

A new firm named Farmers Elevator Company of Ericson organized to rebuild the town elevator burned by fire. Capital stock set at 50,000 with operations to start once full subscription is sold. Directors are George J. Boyd George B. Irving H N Ricker Joseph Kemmerer and Cc. W. Bowman.
The Sorenson meat market lists two steer cuts on sale today praised as top quality meat. The items compare favorably to last winter's short course meat, signaling high grade produce for customers.
The city received sets of polished balls and chains ordered from St. Louis to equip the police for detaining troublemakers. The so called hobo jewelry is described as the latest design and is ready for use by Marshal Ricketts, who awaits an early trial.
A. L. White plans to move his hardware stock to the room now occupied by W. D. Meltzer around the first of May after the Hardy Building was purchased by F. B. Spence. Meltzer will sell as much stock as possible before the move and White will take over the remainder.
Charley Nowlin born 1840 in Gallia Ohio died 1911 in Hot Springs Arkansas at 3:00 pm. He moved to Iowa in 1866, married Jane N McCarthy in 1867 and had four children, two surviving Herbert H and Ben R. Funeral planned at the old home near Ames, likely 2:00 pm. He served in the Civil War and was respected in community life on Ames streets.
A special inter urban car visiting Tuesday afternoon carried H A Wallace vice president and general manager Superintendent DeWitt and Crooks along with other officials. They ordered depot upgrades including a renovated waiting room repairs to offices and a general clean up. A rumor of timetable changes circulated but was not verified. Local agent W L Park now oversees the Newton line and plans to move to town in early summer.
On May 12 a tryout will be held to choose the Ames high school representative in the Chautauqua drama. Eight candidates are expected, each receiving a Chautauqua ticket, with the winner earning five dollars plus a chance at a separate five dollar prize in the Chautauqua association contest.
Waterloo speaker W W Marsh delivers an afternoon lecture at the college titled The Dairy Cow and Conservation. The address closes a three lecture series arranged by the local Alpha Zeta chapter.
The Cambridge sawing outfit located in Zumwalt Park has been relocated to the college farm and will operate for the next two or three weeks on the Squaw Creek bottom just west of town.
Washington dispatch reports bids opened for the Ames public building project. Bidders include General Construction Company Milwaukee at 48 833 dollars Braum and Son Dubuque 56 200 Stiles Construction Chicago 44 548 and Conners Brothers Lowell 49 800 among others from across the nation.
The Collegiate Presbyterian church will hold a meeting Sunday evening at 7 45 at Alumni hall. Geo W Bryant of Coe college Cedar Rapids will speak. All are cordially invited. J W Kennedy of Ames has been drawn on the federal jury for the May term of the federal court at Des Moines.
