Death of Eight-Year-Old M Orville Bailey in Ames
M Orville Bailey aged eight years four months son of Mr and Mrs N W Bailey died September 10 1896. Consolation services were held at the house by Rev A C Blackman. The family will return to Whitehall New York for interment. Bailey then to manage his father's farm back in Ames. Community shares in the sorrow and prayers.

City Council allocates 6236 in bills and taxes
At a regular Ames council meeting last Monday the board approved 6236.27 in bills including power house construction and electrical wiring costs. A 10 mill corporation tax and 5 mill road tax on agricultural lands were approved to pay city bonds. Ayers v. Ames eyed a supreme court appeal. The McKinley club prepared a 1500 to 2000 seat tent rally on Main Street with Hon. John F. Lacey as speaker, awaiting campaign events.
