Lawyers Triquet and Slighun push a deed of sale, Durkee accepts cash, and Blaylinen survives creditors by a 10 cent on the dollar composition, only to be outmaneuvered by Durkee who seizes control of the store and retires Blaylinen to the street. Durkee later hints at a partnership, leaves Blaylinen defeated, and the story notes Durkee’s possible later prominence as a railroad contractor or tabernacle founder.
