A gloom fell on the town when J Lathrop, a respected citizen, collapsed at the depot. He had bought a ticket to Des Moines to visit his daughters and attend the fair. Heart trouble is suspected as the cause. The article also notes local social visits and a water supply progress report.
Wm Lathrow died suddenly in Kelley Iowa while waiting for a Des Moines train of heart failure. Born Fort Lit tleton Pennsylvania June 9, 1832 he married Alma Fraker January 12, 1860 and moved to Iowa in 1869 later living near Ames. Survived by nine children and his wife the funeral was at the M E church conducted by Rev Everly.
