Iowa Democratic State Convention Opens in Des Moines

The Iowa Democratic State Convention met at Moore's Opera House in Des Moines on September 2, 1880. Ed Campbell opened the session, Col. W. H. Merritt delivered an address of welcome, and officers for the temporary organization were announced including Chairman F. W. Lehmann and Secretary W. W. Garner. The body discussed party unity, attacked Republican actions, and adjourned for the afternoon before resuming with credentials reports and permanent officers to be chosen.
