Mrs Brenneman visits the Capital city and many locals travel for visits and events. Miss Connie Brooks attends a wedding and Miss Stella Phillipps returns to Ames to live with her grandmother after summer. Mrs J J Butler visits Boone. Mr Duffee moves to Scranton. W L Taylor tours the West. Rev F J Douglass attends church councils. The social scene includes concerts, dances, and college events with numerous visits between Ames Nevada Des Moines Marshalltown and Osceola.
Ames residents greet visitors and report social happenings including Mr Otis Briggs Sr and Mr and Mrs Swayze in town. Rev Everly welcomes ten new church members and a street band brings a social dance to Opera block. The K C Grain Co elevator in Cambridge burned with substantial loss. Mary Hook to marry H E Passing in Hedrick October 19 1892.
A Tuesday evening concert by Miss Chambers and the L A C choir benefited the Ladies Aid Society of the Congregational church. The audience enjoyed Polly in the playlets and Money Music by Miss MacNaughton. The barn scene costumes and visiting aunt bonnet drew praise. Ames youths form a bicycle association with Stuart Hutchison as president and Robert McCarthy as vice president. E 8 McCord is treasurer and Galen Tilden is noted.
The note highlights Queal's Lumber yard as extremely busy due to Van's low lumber prices on excellent stock. It invites readers to call for figures and mentions Mr. M. Stalker V.8 of the P. E. and a plan to accompany state troops to Chicago for the World’s Fair dedication. It also notes a military drama at the opera house and a moving picture at Hamilton & Co.
Maxwell & Son offers 2900 books free to customers who spend $2.00 on goods at their grocery. The books cover history fiction poetry by leading authors and are available while supplies last. The ad promises every article guaranteed to provide satisfaction and invites trade including butter and eggs.
A proposed public discussion on today’s political issues in Ames between Senator candidates Boardman and Sheldon is under consideration. The 22d Iowa Regimental reunion will be held in Ames next week on Wednesday and Thursday, with the 23d reunion following on those dates.
Maxwell and Son promote groceries with low prices on sugar eggs and pumpkin sample from W. J. Freed farm. Also note sale of Poland china boats eligible to register and Shoats trade. A brief obituary mentions Tennyson's death as a notable literary loss.
The I A C youth group formed a republican club and appointed a committee to draft by laws. The meeting adjourned to finish the organization this evening with a goal of over a hundred members. The piece calls for members Soper Raynor McCarthy Hamilton Sowers and others to join and show their patriotism now.
To the chairmen of Story county committees the Republican Democratic People's and Prohibition parties are urged to send representative speakers to outline their party claims in a union mass meeting. Preliminaries to be arranged by committees. D M Hayden secretary Co Prohibition Organization.
At the 81st District convention held in Nevada on October 6 1892 a rising vote unanimously adopted a resolution praising the late Thomas C McCall for his wartime service and public career. The document also expresses sympathy to his bereaved family and directs publication of the resolutions. The report also covers the suicide of Francis M Finch near Ames with details of his background family and the aftercare.
The departments of music and elocution will give three free recitals on Saturdays at 3 p m October 9 and 22 and November 5. The citizens of Ames are cordially invited. Various local notices follow including sales, ads, meetings, and community items.
