Irvine W. Sirah writes from California at the head of the Sacramento Valley describing Mount Shasta and Sierra Nevada as distant backdrops. He notes warm, dry summers, fruit suitability, varied flora, grazing ranches, and a lifestyle of moving prospectors and ranchers en route to Los Angeles. He marvels at climate and landscape while lamenting the remoteness from Iowa.
A Times-Republican correspondent quotes Ben Shaw disputing rumors of renaming Iowa Agricultural College. He asserts the college’s name is fixed by congressional grant and public support, defending the institution as a source of practical farming education for Iowa's farmers and their children.
At Monday’s meeting the school board fixed next year salaries with Principal at 1200, assistant high school at 400, and other teachers at 40 per year month. Prof. Weld and several teachers were re elected and remaining actions deferred to June.
