Des Moines May 14. Iowa Prohibitionists met with 300 delegates, the largest in years. J A Harvey of Perry chaired the forenoon, with W K Brown Story county as chairman and J G Van Ness Linn as secretary. They nominated delegates to Pittsburg, a state ticket, and formed a new central committee. The platform calls for prohibition, woman suffrage, free coinage at 16 to 1, initiative and referendum on revenue laws, and repeal of the mulct law.
Desperadoes Escape Marion County Jail
Five prisoners confined in the Marion county jail broke out Saturday night after two revolvers were smuggled to them. They forced their way from the corridor by cutting bars while detaining other inmates. Three inmates faced charges for breaking a freight car seal. one was a pickpocket. the fifth resisted an officer and remains at large.
