The Story county Republican convention met in Nevada to endorse William Allison for president and William Greeley for district delegate. Delegates and alternates to state and national conventions were chosen with Ames set to host the next county Republican gathering.
The piece notes a revolt against Quay within Pennsylvania Republicans favoring a man of principle over political craft. It predicts strong McKinley support despite a favorite son push. It argues Iowa should keep the prohibitory mulct law, reject distilleries, and educate the public toward eventual real prohibition rather than backsliding or new production.
The Iowa Telephone Co contemplates a new Ames telephone exchange. Mr. Thompson canvasses other towns and finds growing interest. A decade ago the company had over 20 phones in Ames but removed them due to lack of support. Now a new exchange could be managed successfully if attempted.
The Story County Medical Society gathered Tuesday in Dr Harriman’s Ames office with Drs Templeton Richmond Harriman of Ames Dr Jeffrey of Nevada Dr Clark of Gilbert Station Dr Allen of Story City. Temporary members C B Hutchinson J R Wilson attended for the day. Dr Jeffrey acted as secretary in Dr F S Smith’s absence.
