A weary traveler Nellie waits five hours for a western train. Farmer Brown directs her to Mrs. Holly who feeds and shelters her. Nellie recalls a past romance with Jack Holly and a deed involving six hundred dollars. Clarence Devarges tries to seize the funds but is thwarted. Jack arrives, battles Devarges, and Nellie and Jack reconcile. The tale ends with a cherubic baby in Mrs. Holly’s home.
