Hon Ignatius Donnelly is called the stormy petrel of American politics and literature born in Philadelphia November 3 1831. He studied law and moved to Minnesota where he served as lieutenant governor and congressman from 1863 to 1869 and later gained fame in literature for Ragnarok Atlantis and Shakespeare works. His sister Eleanor Cecilia is a singer and poet honored by Pope Leo XIII.
Jonathan Scott Hartley, born September 23, 1845 in Albany, is hired by the Cushman association to carve the large Charlotte Cushman statue. A recognized sculptor, he studied in England, won a Royal Academy silver medal in 1869, and later received the American Art Association gold medal in 1888. He founded the Salmagundi Sketch Club in New York and has works across the United States.
