Broad tires for farm wagons proposed to save roads
An intelligent farmer from Lee county tells the Fort Madison Democrat that using broad wagon tires five to seven inches wide would protect roads. He argues they cost little more, haul easier in dry weather, and in wet, and would turf down mud so roads stay solid, protecting meadows and fields.

Team Drowned at Willow Grove Bridge Flood
During the recent flood C. H. Watkins and wife of Lafayette township crossed a temporary bridge over a spring branch west of their home. They unhitched the horses to let them drink but the tangled reins and flood current drove the animals into the stream where they drowned before aid could arrive.
