Des Moines post office designated a postal savings repository by Frank Hitchcock. It is one of nineteen first class offices named. Opening date not officially announced, likely Sept 20. Deposit interest begins on the first of the month. Depositors fear little interest loss. Many non native born residents already use money orders with no interest.
A reservoir pipe break reduced Bellevue’s water output by about fifty gallons per minute since last winter and has just been discovered. The report notes multiple local items including a theft charge in Mason City and a dissolution of a domestic theft case in Marshalltown.
The state board of parole denied the release bid for Thomas W. Watson a lifer from Mills county jailed since March 1884 for murder He is 24 at the time and has made several attempts to win freedom The board has other cases before it including the Rainsbergers boys and no recommendations are known.
