A 19th century reminiscence recounts Thomas Edison as a youth in Mont Clemens Michigan. The story follows his rescue of a child near a train yard and his later experiments building makeshift telegraph lines with improvised equipment, plus Mackenzie’s conjecture on Edison’s future genius.
From Watchman notes the Milford township couple T. V. Smith and wife welcome a healthy daughter Wednesday evening. Other items include minor injuries, illnesses, and community updates such as Rev J W Henderson moving to Nevada, Miss Boyd returning from Boone and Ames, and local school, road, and social events.
Nine male citizens took a fishing run Saturday night with reports of many fish caught and a hundred time in general. A pig owned by Ole O Apland reportedly died by hanging last week, Ole cites no clear cause. Camp meeting progresses with twenty one conversions to date.

M. E. McMichael of Ames Iowa advertises licensed dray and express hauling to and from all parts of the city with specialty in land and building stone and invites a trial to prove satisfaction.
A 1893 note urges pulling out fox tail and quack grass from matten strawberry rows after first crop. If two crops have been borne, plow under or cut and drag a new plantation, with August to October growth boosting next year’s berries. Placards should be hung in schools and care maintained until the second harvest. A Sioux City dispatch reports Texas fever spreading. Dr. Miller works to control it.
