Wolves That Herd Cattle On the Range
A witness from Elbert writes of a band of thirty or more wolves corralling about two hundred cattle between Horse and Adobe creeks. The wolves separate the herd, select calves to maul and mutilate while older cattle are left unharmed, then pursue and kill again. Over two days the observer counted eleven calves killed and seven adult animals disabled, with a warning they will continue the slaughter.
