Ames lies on the Chicago and North Western line at its junction with the Des Moines and Minneapolis Road thirty six miles north of Des Moines. It is the seat of the Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts with several hundred students. The town features a well appointed public school and a large public school building. Surrounding farming lands are productive and yield abundantly.
