Poem From The Democratic Review Described As Patriot Overture

The Democratic Review April issue is read by a commenter who finds its long political and literary pieces unsuitable for newspaper publication. A 15 page poem titled Psyche is highlighted as reminiscent of Drake's American Flag, with speculation it may be by the Junior Croaker. The piece extols national pride and the flag as a guardian emblem.

Swede discovers peat made as coal like fuel near Hessingfors

A Stockholm journal reports Mr Orgesson, a Swede with large Finnish peat lands near Hessingfors, has devised a method to render peat as compact as coal. The processed peat lights with bright flame, burns cleanly without crackling, and yields heat comparable to coal. The treatment reduces weight by one fifth and bulk by three eighths while extracting all moisture.

Separation of Government and the Banks in Senate Speech

In the U S Senate on February 20, 1838, Mr Allen condemns a bank driven power shift threatening constitutional government.
