In January 1846 Ohio Democrats resolve against paper currency, pledging support for gold and silver. The piece critiques Pittsburgh Gazette editorialism on railroad funding, warns against protectionist policy, and argues for minimal government interference in trade, urging natural economic course and non interventionist finance.
The Foreign Quarterlies publish re issued North British Review to preserve the quartet of periodicals. A notice from the Post warns Mr. R. Karn who uses the alias Cavarion and pretends to give concerts after leaving town with five dollars from printing bills. The letter cautions printers landlords and others to beware of him and notes prior scams and advertising in Hawaii style. It also mentions subscriptions unpaid for three years and asks debtors to settle or request stopping their papers.
The federalists of the Iowa House of Representatives have declined to proceed with an election for U S Senators.
Mr Webster addresses a Boston meeting, opposing tariff support for domestic industry. He warns Congress may misuse revenue powers to favor certain manufactures, risking constitutional limits and private occupations. He questions laying duties to steer industry and revenue, urging restraint and constitutional consideration.
