Public Defalcations and the Jacksonian Opposition
In a January 17 1839 House speech Mr Duncan argues the Jackson administration resolved the Swartwout defalcation via the specie circular, defends two currencies for government and people, rails at Federalists for betraying party principles, and condemns opponents who change names and policy with elections. He portrays Providence guiding republic peril and predicts Federalist collapse while praising Democratic victories and cabinet appointments amid heated rhetoric.
