Fragmented historical text decries slavery as a vile abomination and condemns the government for abandoning duties to uphold American republicanism. It portrays slavery as a destructive force against liberty, constitutional principles, and national unity, calling for consistency with rational liberty and the 1787 Constitution.
At a January 9, 1845 meeting at the Presbyterian Church in Racine, Jacob L. Brady chaired a session where Leander Wyman moved a resolution affirming abolitionist fidelity and urging fellow supporters to rally in every political contest. The gathering agreed to publish proceedings in the American Freeman and adjourned to February 21.
