Ex Vet Wins Insurance Suit Against U S in Memphis
Clarence J. Billington of Memphis won a federal case as the first of eleven suits by disabled World War I veterans claiming about half a million dollars under United States insurance policies. The jury awarded him 2386.25 in disability payments after the government had discontinued benefits in 1926. The verdict says he was totally disabled and notes that he was advised to swap a 10000 policy for a five year 5000 policy, which the jury called fraudulent inducement.
