The abductor signed notes as Unconventional Eccentric and a classified ad was used to signal willingness to meet demands. Federal agents note clues like a hat ransom notes and description.
Mrs. C. O. Layne wife of Highway Patrolman Layne spotted a man peeping at night. She alerted police and helped hold the suspect until officers arrived. The offender was jailed under a new city ordinance with a $200 maximum fine. The Laynes reside at 505-A Kentucky.
In Memphis on September 21 Special a jury failed to reach a verdict in the Boaz case charging assault with intent to murder City Policeman Charley Hume. After 24 hours of deliberation the jury was dismissed. Boaz also faces two other charges accusing him of assault with intent to murder Sheriff W C Anderson and G C Baskerville with trial due next Monday.
