Doy Arnold, 24, once sentenced to die and later pardoned, killed his ex wife Zelma Arnold, 28, in Breckenridge after a divorce the day before. He surrendered to Sheriff Morrow after the attack, witnesses say the couple talked about an hour before the beating near a business district. Arnold previously faced a 1925 death sentence for a highway assault, later life imprisonment, and a 1930 theft term. He was released about 30 days ago.

Texas Supreme Court Refuses Ferguson Mandamus Bid
The Texas Supreme Court rejected Miriam A. Ferguson’s request for a writ of mandamus to force the state party Executive Committee and convention to certify her as Democratic gubernatorial nominee. The court ruled the respondents had not breached any duty and had no intent to, while Ferguson claimed irregularities could hinder certification despite the most votes. The committee said they would certify the candidate with the most votes. The convention, not yet formed, was not a party to the case. The decision left Governor Sterling asserting he had the most legal votes and prepared to contest Ferguson’s nomination.
