Clarendon reports Greer Cottingham and his wife after their wedding drove from Leila Lake with alfalfa seed a cannon and canned vegetables. They sold the seed in Colorado earned profits on the trip and returned with barley and more canned foods for storage and sale.
The Texas Utilities Company and Alabama Power Company asked the Supreme Court to review a DC District Court ruling denying injunctions against government loans and grants for municipal electric systems in Plainview Texas and several Alabama cities. The case, tied to 35 similar filings, questions the authority of federal acts to fund local utilities serving limited national purpose. Newton D. Baker leads the petition attorneys, overlapping with a Duke Power Company matter.
The Bureau of Agricultural Economics estimates world wheat production at 3.444 billion bushels for 1936-37, down 110 million from 1935-36, excluding Russia and China. Russia's crop is expected smaller, while China may be somewhat larger.

Mrs. Beryl Markham landed in Baliene Cove after a 24 hour 30 minute transatlantic flight from Abingdon England to New York ended with a forced landing. She sustained scratches but was not seriously injured and asked for help by telephone from the Cape Breton area. Ray Goodwin rushed to aid her at the crash site near Alex Burke’s farm.
A morning collision at a street intersection left two dead and two gravely hurt with a man held on two murder charges. F A Hunt 62 and Frank Montgomery 22 died. O L Weaver of Refugio faces murder counts. Mrs Weaver critical. Burshel Campbell injured. Clarence Younts 17 treated for head injuries.
J. T. Arnett of Corsicana a pipeline worker was jailed on charges of negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated after a head on collision on Highway 75 two miles south of Buffalo Leon County. Fort Worth resident Herschel Keith 35 died in Teague hospital from injuries. Her husband and sister in law Miss Mary Sue Keith were gravely hurt but expected to recover.
TVA legal division was notified that 19 private power companies’ suit in federal court at Birmingham was dismissed at the companies’ request. The motion cited no new issues beyond those in the Ashwander decision. A similar suit in Tennessee remains pending.
Wesley D. Amott, a Reset tlement Administration investigator, who had been missing since Tuesday, was found today in a cotton field near Fay’s Station Alabama. Authorities described the head wound as brutal and the skull collapsed when moved. A man named Frank Greene, 29, was arrested near Demopolis driving Amott’s car.
Andrew F. Morrow a barber aged 46 died after a prolonged illness at 9 35 last night in Northwest Texas Hospital.
French officials report Spanish rebels seized Fuenterrabia and Fort Guadalupe near San Sebastian, with Irun in rebel hands. They aim to control Guipuzcoa and northern Spain to threaten Madrid defenses and sever government lines from the rear.

Judge Grady Lowrey set September 12 for the hearing of an election contest filed by Dr. C A McBeth of Utopia against Fritz Strieb of Concan for county commissioner. The protest alleges 54 irregular votes and questions about 30 CCC camp votes at Garner State Park.
Perryton sheriff brands a sensational confession about the 1932 Cone family murders a hoax while investigators seek fresh details. The letter from two Oregon inmates claims involvement with Gene Cone and his two young sons, J M Jr and Vernon, prompting renewed public interest and official inquiry.

Merchants and manufacturers rush to reserve space for the Tri State Fair expo September 21 to 26. O L Ted Taylor secretary manager notes the merchants building will host only commercial displays this year. Only two or three booths remain unreserved as demand remains high.
A single survivor, a girl, was aboard the aircraft that crashed after striking the ground. Only ten passengers were aboard and one girl remained the sole survivor as the plane went down.

Dark clouds over the Panhandle yesterday produced heavy showers in two spots, one in the North Plains and one in the southern region. Sanford, Lubbock area, Lockney, Petersburg report soaking rains. Lubbock measured 1.15 inches in 15 minutes. Lubbock monthly total nears September norm. Petersburg and Lockney also recorded over an inch. Thunderstorm moved northward near English Airport.
