Two California men arrested after two day Plains robbery spree

A two day armed robbery series near Clovis and Groom ended with the arrest of Earl C. Shields and James A. Strong Jr. Both youths face armed robbery charges after injuring victim Bill Frazier and robbing motorists including John Regenold and Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Honey Jr. in a spree that yielded about $75 in cash and damaged bonds.

Pretty Wave Found Slain

Irene Marion Console, 26, a Navy base stationed recruit, was found murdered on a Maryland beach. Navy airman Carl Willis Strickland, 21, was detained near his home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on suspicion of the crime and waived extradition to Maryland. Autopsy ordered to determine cause and sequence of death.

Panhandle Bankers Prepare For 49th Convention Here

Amarillo hosts the Panhandle Bankers Association 49th annual meeting June 2 and 3 at the Herring Hotel with W. Carroll Knorppe as president from Donley County State Bank Clarendon. Methodists Name Board Leaders At Northwest Texas Conference

The Northwest Texas Methodist Conference at Polk Street Methodist Church named board leaders and appointed Dr. T. M. Johnston director of the conference's million dollar endowment campaign. Johnston, pastor of First Methodist Church Pampa, will assist in raising 450000 plus 550000 in large gifts while continuing to preach. Dr. O P Clark, longtime campaign director, was retired. Three commissioners for the Methodist Home in Waco were named from each district.

FBI Nets Seven Top Reds in Nationwide Crackdown

In New York and Connecticut seven more Communist leaders were arrested on Smith Act charges. Agents trailed the suspects to a Manhattan art studio at 38 Old Broadway before a planned secret meeting, identifying leaders Simon Silverman Robert C. Ekins and Jacob Goldring. The arrests bring total party leaders detained to 109 since the crackdown began six years ago.

Memorial Rites Planned in Amarillo for War Dead

Memorial Day ceremonies led by Veterans of Foreign Wars will be held at Memorial Park at 10 AM with a 40 member drum and bugle corps from Amarillo AFB and an honor drill team.
