Panic Fire Kills Over Two Hundred at Kentucky Nightclub
A crowded Southgate nightclub packed with about 5 000 holiday revelers burned and filled with smoke. Fire Chief David Risenberg says at least 200 bodies were counted with others feared trapped as flames raged and the venue was evacuated. John Davidson was to perform but was unharmed. A second blaze occurred at Duro Paper Co in Ludlow, KY. connection unknown.

Couple Credited With Saving 4 From Execution at Roswell
In Roswell New Mexico Chavez County sheriff officers credit Amarillo man Robert C. Willis and companion Miss Rhea Taylor with preventing the execution of a Roswell couple and two young girls at Bottomless Lakes State Park. Willis was wounded three times and Taylor twice. both were treated at St Mary’s Hospital Roswell and said to be in improving condition. The abductors fled after a gunfight. one suspect was found dead in a truck, another, Harold Scott, 26, killed himself. Charles Davis, 19, remained jailed on multiple charges after being captured. The victims included Rowland Tessier his fiance Judy Higgenbotham and two 6-year-old girls. Tessier owns Tesco Sign Co and said the abductors forced him to write a $3,000 check then a $1,500 check before taking money and cash.
