Firestone plans huge Borger plant for gas and carbon black

Special to The News reports Harvey S. Firestone of Akron intends spending at least 6 million dollars on a Borger Texas project. The plan includes producing gasoline from natural gas wells and using residue gas to manufacture carbon black for tires. The venture envisions over 30 gas wells and a large land purchase near Borger as part of a statewide service and production network.

Fogarty Tunney Talks surfaced in Hot Springs

Mayor Leo P. McLaughlin recalled Tunney's ties to Mrs. Katherine Fogarty during her suit for 500000 damages claiming breach of promise. He said an attempt at settlement failed with Fogarty demanding at least 100000.

Mayer Chosen Company Head in Oil Merger

The Mayer Oil organization forms from Johnson Ranch Royalty Rock Creek and Fritch Oil and Gas after stockholder meeting in Denver. Ed R. Mayer named president. authorized capital 2 million dollars across 200 000 shares. Exchange terms place Johnson Ranch Royalty and Rock Creek at 28 dollars per share while Fritch is 1 25 per share. The Fritch unit drills in Moore County adjoining Prairie Oil and Gas lease. Continued on page 2 column 8.

Judge Sets Aside 15Year Sentence for 6YearOld Killer

Circuit Judge Frank Bailey issued a writ of prohibition to cancel the 15-year reformatory term given to Carl Mahan for the killing of Cecil Van Hoose, an 8-year-old playmate. The judge ruled county court overstepped authority by sentencing a child so young to prison. The case, first of its kind in Kentucky, began as murder and was reduced to manslaughter on the first ballot.

Fire Rescue in Four-Story Downtown Building

More than a score of workers were rescued from a four story downtown building as fire trapped elevators on the lower floors. Firemen lowered panicked office workers by ladders and by two o clock the blaze was under control with no injuries reported.

Evangeline Booth commander in chief of the Salvation Army in America was seriously injured in an automobile accident. She suffers a concussion and multiple injuries around an eye but is progressing favorably with no immediate alarm. The crash occurred while en route from her Hartsdale home to Salvation Army headquarters. a Cleveland engagement scheduled for Sunday was canceled.

Bond Granted for Hamilton in Walden Killing Case

Judge R J Hamilton released from jail on a $20 000 bond after a lengthy habeas corpus hearing in the killing of Tom Walton, 21, son in law of Hamilton. Judge Henry Bishop ruled the case hailable and allowed bond, with DA opposition noted but bond signed within 30 minutes. Mrs Hamilton and Theresa Walton attended the proceedings.

Amarillo High Band Makes Showing in Denver Parade

The Amarillo high school band joined a downtown parade and outdoor concert in Denver then headed home Saturday night. The group performed in the Class A preliminary of the National High School Band contest but did not qualify for the final round.

Woman knocked down by hit and run driver in Amarillo

Mrs. L. A. Smith 4215 West Fifteenth avenue was struck by an eastbound car in front of the Amarillo Fish Market at about 8 30 last night. She suffered a fractured shoulder and bruises and was taken to Northwest Texas hospital by Griggs ambulance. Witnesses said she had crossed Fifth avenue after parking in the 100 block when struck. the driver fled the scene.

Mrs. Theda Burch of El Paso was shot three times from a rent car as she rode in a taxi with Dr. W. E. Hubbert and Mrs. C. Robenson. Witnesses say the youth fired from his car after pulling alongside. He, a high school student, was arrested and gave no statement.
