Finding of Body in East River Ties Witness to Slaying Case

A six month probe into the slaying of GOP campaign worker Joseph Scottoriggio advances as the East River body is identified as Anthony Lagano, a former election district captain for Vito Marcantonio. Lagano’s death by asphyxiation is tied to a Dec 11 subpoena and relates to the Marcantonio campaign in New York’s 18th district.

Santa Fe Tower Site for New KGNC FM Unit

KGNC announces early installation of FM transmitter atop the Santa Fe Building in Amarillo with cooperation from Santa Fe Railway officials. The station manager Aubrey Jackson says the first KGNC FM broadcast from the tower is planned for July 15, signaling rapid FM service to Amarillo listeners.

Third Goodwill Tour of Plains Opens Tomorrow

Amarillo business and professional men begin their third goodwill tour in seven months. The booster train leaves Fort Worth and Denver station at 8 30 in the morning visiting 13 Panhandle towns with parades led by the West Texas State Buffalo Band. Clark Plans Lynch Probe

Kansas City May 24 Attorney General Tom Clark said he will seek a mediate investigation into possible federal action over the lynching case in Greenville South Carolina where jurors acquitted white men in a Negro murder. A defense attorney warned federal prosecution would fail, urged education for both races, and a telegram from the United Negro and Allied Veterans demanded DOJ intervention under the 14th Amendment. Socialite Emily Randolph Found Dead in Fume-Filled Garage

Cincinnati report says Emily Randolph a 30 year old socialite was discovered dead in the front seat of a car in a garage at her suburban home. Two notes signed EM were found. one addressed to her husband John Randolph and the other to an unnamed man Werk Cook. Randolph was a former Junior League leader and region director for the Association of Junior Leagues of America. The husband is president and treasurer of Ohio Knife Co. The family says she had intended to fly to Florida with her husband.

Fatal gun accident claims Adrian man Fortenberry

Adrian resident Glenn Fortenberry died in Amarillo Veterans Hospital from an accidental self inflicted gunshot wound while showing a recently purchased firearm to friend Buck Jordan at his father in law C W Jones home in Adrian. He was 20. Survivors include wife Ann and parents Jay and Mrs Fortenberry along with six sisters and a brother.

Clovis Egg Co co-owner dies in storage locker

Buster B Laughlin co-owner of Laughlin Egg Company died in a cold storage locker at his plant in Clovis after a fall from a ladder left him unconscious. The 41 year old arrived in 1942 to start the business with Elbert Lott. He leaves a wife and three sons, plus his mother, a brother and seven sisters. Funeral services set for Monday at River Funeral Home with burial in Clovis Cemetery.

Texas City Burial Date Set for June 8

The long delayed mass burial for unidentified Texas City dead is tentatively planned for Sunday June 8. Mayor Curtis Trahan said a memorial funeral park may be created northwest of the city to honor the unknown victims. Ninety five unidentified bodies are in vaults at Camp Wallace Morgue as identification work continues. Masonic memorial services will be held Wednesday on the city athletic field.

Bus Disabled By Gunfire Report Near Amarillo

Greyhound officials investigated a late night report of a bus fired upon about 20 miles east of Amarillo on the Oklahoma City Highway. Kenneth Smith of Kingfisher Oklahoma reported the shooting and a 20 mile distance from Amarillo. About 30 passengers were on board bound for Oklahoma City with unconfirmed damage to fuel pump and radiator. no injuries initially reported.
