In Brockton Massachusetts three masked robbers hijacked a Brink's truck, bound guards, and escaped with about 630000 in cash. The heist escalates a decades long string of eastern Massachusetts cash thefts totaling about 5 million since 1950.
From Our Austin Bureau Austin A Senate bill by Sen Grady Hazelwood of Canton to place the hallucinatory drug LSD on the list of dangerous drugs in Texas passed the Senate and was sent to the House Tuesday. The bill makes possession of the drug a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to two years in county jail. House version of the bill was recently sent to the Senate from the House, but is apparently dead.
Mayor J Ernest Stroud won one and lost one Tuesday in making appointments to the Amarillo Zoning and Planning Commission. The appointments were approved 3 1 by the City Commission. Leland W Abbott was named to a three year term replacing Howard Ensign. YT Stringer was approved for a three year term filling the unexpired term of Robert W Bauman. Thompson urged changes noting real estate ties among mayoral choices.
US Public Health Service warned Rep Paul Rogers of Florida that color TV sets may emit dangerous radiation from defective power tubes. He said 600 times safe levels could be reached directly under a faulty tube and additional sets may be affected beyond the 90,000 to 100,000 recalled by GE. Rogers called for a House subcommittee investigation as no regulator agency is now testing sets for excess radiation.
