The revered pastor and civic worker Dr Rasmus Thomsen died at 6 40 pm in Northwest Texas Hospital after a heart attack at 6 20 pm. He was 73 and had retired from active ministry in 1945. Funeral services are set for 4 30 pm Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church.

The Security Council did not accept the United States demand for strong action to stop fighting between Arabs and Jews. Firemen rushing to a Northeast Philadelphia intersection found no initial blaze. A blazing boxcar was pushed onto a siding by a Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive and the fire crew worked to extinguish the fire as railroad workers watched.

Washington May 22 AP officials report that nearly all members of the Senate Armed Services Committee favor revising the selective service bill to remove a compulsory one year drill for 161000 18 year olds. The plan would let 18 year olds volunteer for one year and then serve four years in reserve units. Members 19 to 25 would be drafted for two years. Army Navy and Air Force leaders expect about 250000 volunteers for the one year program.
The Amarillo High School Choir seeks 10000 dollars to cover a New York trip for 50 voices with appearances at Lions International events in Madison Square Garden and on national radio. Donations to Choir Trip Fund may be sent to Globe News and Julia Dean Evans manages the fund through a local bank. Contributions listed include Amarillo Gas Co and MacDowell Music Club among others.
The US weather bureau forecasts scattered showers across sections of the Panhandle today with locally heavy rains possible. Temperatures will stay below yesterday's 94 at 4 30 pm but should rise to around 90 degrees in Amarillo unless showers occur.
The Texas Employment Commission reports 236 new industries opened in Texas in the past six months. The firms, employing eight or more persons, total 3,900 workers across the state.

Funeral service for Tom Gallaher will be held at 2 30 PM Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church. Gallaher died Friday in his Chicago offices. he was Santa Fe Railroad traffic manager for 11 years and an Amarillo civic leader with deep local ties. Burial is at Llano Cemetery.
The Harris Company awarded a GE sweeper to Mrs. Alice Wilson of 825 North Van Buren as part of the recent News- Globe Appliance Show prize list. The award was presented yesterday.
Lyndon B. Johnson arrives in Amarillo for a two day swing to campaign and meet supporters. He will be interviewed on KGNC early Monday and speak at Junior Chamber of Commerce and Panhandle events. A Tuesday night rally on the county courthouse lawn caps the visit with a press conference at the Herring Hotel.
