Amarillo Exhibit Heads to Chicago Century of Progress

Amarillo will send its Century of Progress exhibit Monday morning to Chicago aboard an American Airways plane. The display, arranged by the Cord Corporation and created by McCormick Advertising, features the U S Helium Plant with a model and Neon sign. It also includes English Field aviation model and Amarillo trade routes by air and rail.

Palo Duro Road Recalls First Trail Built Through Gorge

PHEBE K. WARNER recounts how in 1877 Mrs. Mary Ann Goodnight led wagons into Palo Duro Canyon marking the first road building in Armstrong County. Decades later Will Hamblin and local effort, aided by the RFC and county funds, built a cross canyon road linking Claude and Wayside after isolation for 25 years.

Lipscomb County Schools Receive State Aid Deductions

Special to The Sunday News Globe reports Judge A Bissantz received a state Treasury check for balance of state aid to Lipscomb county schools. Total aid listed for Cope Plum Creek Carroll Zett Lipscomb Booker Baker Higgins and others totals 2432 with various independent and transportation allocations. A remaining balance of nine dollars of the sixteen per scholastic allocation is due. County judge says every school will be in fair financial shape once paid.

Lipscomb to Address Borger Graduates

Rev. L N Lipscomb presiding elder of Amarillo district will preach the Borger High School graduation sermon at 11:00 A M in the high school auditorium. The week will open a graduation series with class day May 17 and commencement May 19. Junior High School graduation follows that afternoon.

Poppy Day set for Borger on May 27

Borger observes Poppy Day on May 27, the Saturday before Memorial Day. Mrs. W A Morton, chairwoman of the American Legion Auxiliary unit 412 Poppy Committee, announces the tribute to those who served. The observance highlights the Palo Duro bridge road project and county and state benefits from the effort.

France Hikes Import License Tax on U.S. Goods

The French ministry of finance ordered a broad extension of the import licenses tax affecting many imports from the United States. Officials insisted the measure is domestic, not a customs barrier, and Parliament had approved it months ago. The government plans to seek power to reduce the import turnover tax next week.

Skellytown Plans Mother's Day Music Program

Skellytown May 13 a special Mother's Day program under Mrs John Beighle will be presented Sunday at the Skellytown Sunday school. The vested children's choir will sing with Lois Beighle, Mary Janice Thorp, Junior Black and Sarah Florence Parker on the program.
