The Brennan Construction Company of Amarillo wins the general contract for Santa Fe's 14 story 1.5 million dollar office building at Ninth and Pelk streets. The project valued about 900000 covers general construction and steel frame erection. Work to start about June 1 with occupancy aimed before June 1 1929.
Amarillo patrolman Thomas H. Bush seeks possession of Punkin John Ramey the 108 year old Kentucky mountaineer said to be petrified into a 400 pound stone form. Scientists offered up to 10000 dollars but grandchildren insisted on immediate reburial in the hills near Clinch River Virginia.
Evangelist Dr. O L Powers will start a two week revival at First Baptist Church Wichita Faile Monday night at 7 oclock. Services include mornings at 10 and evenings at 6 with J D Riddle directing the song service and W L Day leading the personal workers band. Powers is regarded as a leading Baptist minister and local members feel fortunate to host him.
Nelson K. Moody of Prairie Old & Gag company urges Amarillo to delay action on gas franchises for new firms until his group can present its position. He touts Amarillo as having the lowest natural gas rates and claims credit for a planned U. S. helium plant. Moody says the city’s industrial growth hinges on how growing concerns are treated and that his firm has invested heavily and pays taxes in Amarillo.
Washington May 12 The Associated Press reports rising rivalries as the June national conventions approach. Hoover and Smith face organized opposition amid claims of delegate support for both parties. In Democratic politics the two thirds rule means a Hamilton to Houston victory hinges on 733 1 14 of 1 160 delegates. Kansas City requires a bare 545 votes for nomination.
Kansas Governor Ben Paulen sent a protest letter to Oklahoma's governor over the rule requiring Kansas motorists to obtain Oklahoma licenses for brief trips into Oklahoma. He noted Oklahoma trucks can operate in Kansas without similar fees while Kansas firms face a yearlong Oklahoma license requirement for deliveries.
Kansas City May 12. Bishop Francis J. McConnell of Pittsburgh gains unanimous confidence from the quadrennial conference as a charge of maladministration and immorality is expunged. He condemns the use of immorality in a Wilmington report case and the conference dismisses the complaint.
CANADIAN Texas May 12 David Moffat Hargrave 75 pioneer cattleman Hamphill county died suddenly at his home in Canadian Friday afternoon in poor health for several years. Born in Quebec he came to the Texas Panhandle in his early twenties. Surviving wife one daughter Mrs FE R Cloyd Brownwood two sons James Temple Hargrave Canadian and David Andrew Hargrave Long Beach California Funeral arrangements are not complete.
London report says after clearing Taiwan of nationalist troops Japanese consuls and Tsinan commanders urge the Chinese chamber of commerce to govern Tsinan including telegraph and police services. Japan weighs presenting Shantung affairs to the League of Nations. Casualties in Shantung total 40 killed and 145 wounded since May 3.

Austin Texas May 12 A 350000 school house building bond issue for the city of San Angelo was approved Saturday by Assistant Attorney General D L Whitehurst.
Amarillo men connected with the Rotary club agreed to counsel him and help him start anew. F. H. Crawford was paroled Saturday by Governor Moody from a two year Potter county forgery sentence. The governor was told Crawford escaped after the offense but was conscience stricken.
