Frank Gonzales, 27, a Philippine Olympic yachtsman, owned a gun tied to a Pacific Airlines crash that killed 44. Investigators released a tape of the pilot’s last words claiming he had been shot. Reports say Gonzales carried about 100,000 in trip life insurance and had gambled in Reno. his brother notes estrangement from his wife. The FBI would not confirm ownership of the weapon.
Corrine Ferne Buckner, a middle aged woman, is charged with opening a Citizens National Bank account using a forged certified check for 7500 and withdrawing 4500 in two installments. Police and FBI agents hunt for her amid links to a Sacramento bogus check case.
Amarillo 15 year old Arthur Foote was found dead in Palo Duro Creek eight miles southeast of Amarillo near the Palisades after a two hour search by Randall County deputies and volunteers. His body was located in about 12 feet of water near the old bridge at the east edge of the suburban development.
Five boys and a man walked eight miles from Amarillo to a park for a swim. Arthur, claiming to be an expert swimmer, led companions including James 13 Bobby Holt 13 of 2510 Aldridge Ronnie Ray Hart 18 of 2410 Roberts and Troy Bell 13 of 2508 Wilson.
An 1862 state bond once issued to finance rebellion becomes the center of a Kansas City case filed by Wichita residents Irving Spears and his wife. They claim Missouri owes the value of the redeemable note found by Spears, though the state treasurer says the bond was not redeemable. The bond, dated January 1, 1862, offered 10 percent interest and a three year maturity.
Flames fed by gasoline and oil ripped through the Sid Stout Ford Ranch garage and sales offices on Saturday causing about 1 million in damage. A mechanic’s electric light shattered in a gasoline pool triggering the blaze as fire crews fought the fire for over an hour. The showroom lost 12 cars, five in the service department and one in a rear shop. Officials said power and telephone service were being restored to other divisions and that business would resume Monday.
President Johnson promised the civil rights bill will pass even if Congress sits around the clock. He urged a Senate vote by month’s end and signaled he will seek re election while planning tours to poverty zones in Appalachia. He spoke to 7000 at Singer Bowl after touring the World’s Fair and Venezuelan pavilion.

A UPI report details a Thunderbird F-105 crash at Hamilton AFB near San Francisco during a practice air show. Capt. Eugene J. Devlin, 31, was killed when the jet disintegrated at about 300 feet. The event canceled Sunday's Armed Forces Day open house. The Thunderbirds had recently flown over the Bay Area from Ellis AFB near Las Vegas after arriving from McChord AFB near Tacoma.
Six bodies recovered after a C124 military transport exploded and crashed near Coopereton Oklahoma while en route from Clovis AFB to Dover Delaware. Two crew or passengers unaccounted for as the wreck burned in heavy rain. Witnesses heard a roar and saw flames. responders reported intense heat preventing close approach.
Conservatives claim 180 counties backing Governor Connally for 1650 of 2834 Houston June convention votes while liberals win key counties, setting up a battle for Houston credentials. A separate Nolan County GOP pushes nonpartisan local elections.
